Joan Parsons Hospital Records - Essex Records Office reply

Notes

  • Essex Records Office Email reply dated 25-July-2005 to David regarding Joan's Hospital periods at Warley Hospital Brentwood.

Thank you for your email, which has been forwarded to me as I dealt with the initial query from Mascalls Park.

The staff at Mascalls Park did not mention when your mother was admitted to Warley Hospital but did include her patient numbers 68/372 and WO 70/518 and in both cases the first set of numbers relate to her admission to the Hospital in 1968 and 1970 respectively.  I am afraid that the only patient records for Warley Hospital deposited here that cover the period after 1965 are admission registers which record when each patient was admitted and discharged.  I did inform the staff at Mascalls Park on 5 April that there were no patient case records here after 1965 and I assumed that this information would be passed on to you as I did not have your contact details.

We have checked the information in the admission registers which is very limited but is as follows:

    Admission register reference A/H 10/2/7/11
Admitted 19 March 1968, general reference number 68/372/1 Bridge, Joan Emily, aged 49, status Informal H [this abbreviation often occurs in the register but isn't explained], health service patient, previously dealt with under one of mental health acts, of 6 Sterry Gardens, Dagenham, discharged 25 May 1968, relieved

    Admission register reference A/H 10/2/7/12
Admitted 5 May 1970, general reference number 70/518/1 Bridge, Joan Emily, aged 51, status Informal H, health service patient, previously dealt with under one of mental health acts, haemorrhage due to amputation of legs, died 10 October 1970

I will contact the staff at Mascalls Park to see if they can find out when your mother was admitted to Warley Hospital prior to the entry for March 1968, but as they did not quote any other patient number in previous correspondence it may not be possible to find this out.

I am sorry we could not be of more assistance.
