Notes

  • Sidney Curtis (dobb 1903) celebrated his Centenary in the same month as the Ford Motor Company Worldwide Centenary.
Sidney had his photograph taken at the Ford Aveley Photographic Studio along with his Great-Grandson Stuart Bridge and Stuarts father David who at the time was working at the Warley Office  (David was Married to Sid's grand-daughter Sheree).

David knew & dealt with a number of the Ford people in the Public Affairs department and the Ford News office and it was through conversations about the Family History work he was undertaking (which this is part of) that the significance of Sidney's Birthday became apparent.
David happened to mention in conversation to some of these people and other friends in the Human Resources dept about the coincidence of Sidney and Ford celebrating their Centenaries and that Sidney had been retired from Ford longer than David had worked for them (30 years at the time of the Sid/Ford centenary).

Given the Ford connection's of Sidney Senior, his son Sidney Curtis and Grandson-in-law David Bridge who still worked for Ford at the time of Ford's Worldwide Centenary (June 2003) Public Affairs asked if Sidney would like to have his photograph taken, this was then used as one of the Public Image's in Britain for Ford's Centenary for National Press release's within the United Kingdom.
Sidney agreed to pose for the photographs and he had a wonderful day out.
The images were used in a variety of media from National Papers & Magazines (Auto Express) to regional papers (incl Tewkesbury Glocs where an old work friend of Sidney Jnr saw the article cut it out and sent it to Sid & Rita).
Many of these press cutngs have been collated for this family history story.

Another coincidence to the Centenary theme was that Sidney Senior had 27 years service; Sidney Junior had 43 years service and David Bridge, at the time, had 30 years service, which also equates to 100 years of Ford Service in the Centenary year.
There was approx 270 years (now in excess of 300 years) of Ford service via David's extended family including Centenary Sid & his son Sidney and Davids own side of the tree which is captured in an article in the June 2003 issue of the Internal Ford UK Magazine.

  • Sidney Curtis (born 1903) is 1 of 13, Joan & Ethel Vaughan are Cousins to Sidney and have the Curtis Family Bible from which much of the Curtis line within this Genealogy has been taken from initially.
This bible came to them via Aunt Sarah who passed it to Aunt Ethel who is Joan & Ethel's mum.

74 Cambridge Road, Seven Kings was where the two aunts (Sadie & Ethel) lived.
Xmas meals were had there, children on one table men on another, and whilst the women ate the men washed up.
Xmas 1946 Sid & Rose walked with Jeanne, Sidney & Linda in a pram to Seven Kings in the snow as there was no bus service, approx 4 miles and 1h 20m in good weather.
Linda had a raving earache and her bonnet had stuck to her ear.
