Bertha remembers moving from Deptford by Bus with Ada whilst boys went in the truck with furniture. Bertha also remembers moving from 2 rooms to 5 rooms in the house in Valance Ave Dagenham. Move to Dagenham was about 1925 just after Ada had had her Daughter (assume Bertha meant Maureen)

They lived at Hynton Road Dagenham for 57 years before moving to Hutton.
The first house Bertha lived at was Chittys Lane near the school but Brother Albert new a councillor or council worker in the Housing department and got on to him to sorrt out a better property, this was Hynton Road, which Bertha looked at before they even got the invite to go look at it because someone knew the lady was moving out.
Honeymoon was a trip to the Isle of Man to see the TT motor cycle races.

  • Bertha Dungey (Nee Bridge) worked at the Bakery Factory in Wantz Road, Dagenham at the time Joan Bridge (Nee Parsons) committed suicide.

  • Moved to Hutton Brentwood Essex approx 1994-5 to be near Daughter.
  • Bertha remembers her dad Albert Edward coming home in his Army Uniform and putting her on his shoulders and taking her up the road to the sweetshop.
  • Bertha's Daughter tells of her Dad Stan arriving on his motorbike at the Bridge home (Valence Ave?) and asking two "dirty little urchins" whether Bertha lived at the house. One wiped her runny nose on her sleeve and said "no one with that name lives ere mate"; the other said "ere he means Sis". The two urchins were Mary & Voilet Miller, Bertha's Half Sisters.
